Description

The optimisation of production systems has been one of the pillars of the competitiveness of the industrial sector and has worked from many points of view (organisation, maintenance, etc.).

With the massive incorporation of sensors into production equipment and the development of technologies capable of treating these data, new lines of work have opened to address optimisation from a global viewpoint.

Understanding production systems as the set of production equipment per se and the auxiliary systems (maintenance, inspection, etc.), the objective of the line of work "Optimisation of production systems using cognitive technologies", which provides the framework for this thesis, is to research and develop new control methods at different levels which, making use of existing information, the production system will be able to adapt intelligently to the different situations that arise.

The main areas to study/analyse will be:

  • - Defining the control models for production systems that incorporate different control cycles: control itself, learning, decision-making support, etc.

  • - Use of cognitive technologies in these control cycles and in system optimisation

  • - Defining the laser-based system/process model

  • - Evaluation of the models in simulation mode

  • - Demonstration in a simplified scenario.

Requeriments

- Masters level required (completed before starting the Ph.D programme), research vocation and English.
- Particularly welcome is the University Master"s degree in Industrial Engineering from the EHU-UPV, University Master"s in Automation, Electronics and Industrial Control (Deusto) and the Master"s in Industrial Engineering (Tecnun), but other Master’s may also be considered for access to the Ph.D. programme.
- Knowledge of production processes, machine learning, etc. will be highly valued.
- Initiative, ability to work in a team, and capacity for problem solving are essential.
