Description

Additive manufacturing development has reached a high stage of knowledge both as regards part manufacture and the sectors envisioning its application. The technology is consolidated. Hence, it is time to focus on process industrialization and, among other aspects, the customizing of new materials specifically for additive manufacturing, this aspect having been found of such vital importance wherever the ad-hoc design of an alloy spells out the feasibility of industrializing the additive manufacture of certain parts.

The research topic aims at the development of the additive manufacturing process in terms of materials such as certain aluminium alloys and special steels requiring particular study as to alloy design, manufacturing strategies, microstructure characterization and other further development oriented towards subsequent application.

The doctoral candidate will have to have to work with a multidisciplinary group, establishing optimum working parameters for certain alloys and at the same time determining their microstructural and mechanical characteristics, as well as visualizing future applications on an industrial scale.

We offer the possibility of greater in-depth knowledge regarding additive manufacturing in terms of laser and metallurgy processes applied to SLM, WAAM and LMD technologies.
