    Description

    In recent years, the reliability of power electronic systems is attracting greater attention. The development of power systems demands greater efficiency, stability and reliability, along with reduced weight, volume and costs. For applications, such as smart grids or renewable energy systems, the reliability of power electronics is of vital importance, as these systems are in continuous operation and power converters play an essential role. Additionally, for applications such as propulsion systems, traction systems and for harsh environments, the service life of the devices and power electronics is a critical factor in the design process. In this field, one of the tools to enhance reliability and the availability of the converter is through monitoring and the real-time prediction of power components, to predict, identify and prevent the degradation of the most critical components.

    Therefore, the objective of this dissertation is to make headway with the design of power electronics system reliability. To achieve this, mathematical models are to be developed to predict the reliability, from a multidisciplinary perspective (electronic, mechanical, thermal, etc.). Also, various real-time monitoring and prediction techniques will also be researched for the most critical components (semiconductors, capacitors, etc.), in order to increase the availability and maintainability of power electronics systems. These techniques are to be implemented in a demonstrator for their experimental validation.

    Requeriments

    Degree in Automation and Industrial Electronics Engineering, or Industrial Electronics and Industrial Automation Engineering. Master in Advanced Electronic Systems or Master in Energy and Power Electronics. Any experience in power converters, converter control, magnetic power component design (coils, transformers) is an advantage. Knowledge of simulation, design, integration, validation. Working tools: Matlab-Simulink, Flux, PLECS, Labview. The ability to build relationships, work as a team, proactivity, responsibility and commitment are essential.
