Deterministic communications for industrial control

    Description

    The aim of the thesis is to establish a hybrid architecture (wireless and wired) for industrial communication networks for applications of control / sensors with real time requirements. In the scope of this thesis we will consider the concepts of synchronisation, architecture / topology and low consumption.
    The objective is to achieve a heterogeneous communications network that would allow for high priority and performance communication nodes, but would also permit integration of smaller low consumption nodes. This is all in order to be able to provide a solution for the real-time Fog/Edge computing applications.
    This thesis will be carried out under the umbrella of the collaboration with TTTech.
    We must also highlight that the technologies developed in this thesis (and that of Zaloa Fernández) could possibly be used in other applications such as vehicular communication (V2V) where it is necessary to exchange safety information between vehicles with real-time requirements and deterministic behaviour.

    Telecommunications Engineering, Information Technology Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Degree in Mathematics, Degree in Physics, or similar.

    Proficiency in the English language is considered essential (the Doctoral Candidate will conduct a research visit at a renowned international Centre for at least 3 months).

    The Doctoral Candidate must have initiative and be motivated to develop new concepts and communication schemes, along with leadership skills for the resolution of issues.

    Doctoral Candidate skills in the following areas are an advantage:

         • Programming languages: C, C++, etc.
         • Modelling and simulation languages: OPNET, Omnet++, Matlab, etc.
         • Mathematics.
         • Leadership skills and problem-solving abilities.
         • Ability to work in a team.
         • Scientific vocation.
