This open position deals with the fabrication of superficial fabrication processes for the fabrication of linear encoders in metals. The main target is to record very high definition features so that new optical properties odf the surface are defined in a controlled manner. This may lead to more robust devices. The applicant will be involved in the definition, fabrication and characterizartion of the superficial process.

Long ultra-fine grain steel products using warm sheet calibre-rolling technology

The work will be carried out as part of a European project. The innovative aspect of the project involves producing a long submicrometre-scale steel material using warm sheet calibre-rolling technology. The aim is to produce samples using pilot laminating equipment. This will produce material which can be fully characterized and will also produce enough to manufacture some model components. The project involves validating the product on a semi-industrial scale and exploring its industrial viability.
